During the early years there can be some obvious gait anomalies (the way in which a child walks) in children. Whilst many of these anomalies are common and correct themselves as your child’s musculoskeletal system develops, some require medical assistance.
The majority of children presenting with a gait anomaly are perfectly normal and following the correct advice parents can be assured that their child is well and their problem is just a normal variance for their age and is developing age appropriately.
However all children presenting with a gait anomaly should be assessed thoroughly by a health professional to ensure that there is no underlying medical cause for the presenting gait anomaly.
