Anterior knee pain is a common complaint in children and adolescents. Pain is experienced at the front (anterior) of the knee or near the patella (knee cap).
Children of all ages can experience anterior knee pain but it is most common during periods of rapid growth, or with increased sports participation. Anterior knee pain is often caused by mechanical stress on the bones and tendons at the front of the knee from rapid growth or from physical activity. The knee cap may also be out of alignment.
A physiotherapy assessment with Physio Hub based in the North East of England will be able to determine the cause of your child’s anterior knee pain. An exercise programme aimed at stretching tight structures and strengthening to promote biomechanical alignment and muscle balance should address your child’s symptoms
